The Alpha-Okies supports the mission statement of the Alpha 1 Association

and all policies in place for support groups.

A Little About Our Cause:

Alpha 1 Antitrypsin deficiency is a genetic disorder that causes significant reduction in the naturally occurring protein AAT. It is believed that Alpha-1 affects as many as 100,000 people in the U.S.  It is the most common cause of genetic liver disease in

children and genetic emphysema in adults.

With treatment, these individuals can lead virtually normal lives. However, few are diagnosed early enough, and treatment is life long, requires medical supervision, and is quite expensive.

The Alpha-Okies are committed to helping these Families get the support they so desperately need.
